AL-INVEST Verde participates in Brazil in Team Europe meeting on deforestation-free chains

From 3 to 7 November, AL-INVEST Verde participated in the Altamira Summit held in Altamira, in the Brazilian state of Pará. Organised by the Team Europe Initiative on Deforestation-Free Value Chains, of which AL-INVEST Verde is a member, this event brought together government, private sector and international cooperation representatives from Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe. to promote dialogue, exchange of experiences and networking.

During the event, AL-INVEST Verde presented two of the projects it supports in Bolivia and Paraguay. In the case of Bolivia, José Luis Osinaga, General Director of Integral Development of Forests and Land of the Authority of Social Control of Forests and Land, presented the project “Geolocation and verification of the legality of wild Amazonian cocoa in Bolivia”, which seeks, among other things, to create a space for public-private dialogue and consultation to promote this process. 

For his part, Andrés Ginés, coordinator of the Socio-environmental Traceability Executing Unit of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC), presented the progress of the AL-INVEST Verde-supported project in the country for the implementation of the socio-environmental traceability system Inclusive and public RETSA for the soy and beef chains, easily accessible to producers.

During the week-long meeting, field visits were also organised to learn about local cocoa, chocolate and cattle projects that apply sustainable production and business practices. The event ended with a collective reflection session aimed at extracting lessons learned and identifying opportunities for improvement..
