13 May 2024.- The official launch of the first phase of AL-INVmentor took place in Paraguay and Brazil, marking the start of an innovative and innovative AL-INVEST Verde Component 3 mentoring programme for intellectual property rights. This first phase of the first edition of the programme consists of six mentorships in MERCOSUR countries.
It will begin with the selection of participants and continue with subsequent phases that include field work and a series of workshops designed to help producers to develop internationalisation strategies that support their transition to a low-carbon economyresource-efficient and more circular, in line with the European Green Pact. In addition, AL-INVmentor will support local producers in obtaining legal protection against unauthorised sustainability claims.
The mentorships in Paraguay were officially launched on 6 May in Asunción, in close cooperation with the National Directorate of Intellectual Property of Paraguay (DINAPI). While in Brazil, the mentorships were opened on 10 May during the Inova Amazônia - Bioeconomy Summit for Amazonian startups event in Manaus, and will be held in coordination with the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (BMS) (SEBRAE).
The main objectives of this AL-INVmentor mentoring series are:
- Increase the visibility of Geographical Indications as Intellectual Property (IP) instruments that promote sustainable development.
- Provide support to six groups of producers from MERCOSUR countries through mentoring to enable them to maximise the benefits of Geographical Indications as an IP instrument.
- Contribute to bringing the selected products into line with the regulations associated with the European Green Pact, thus enabling them to access the EU market.
