AL-INVEST Verde promotes sustainable value chains in Uruguay

During the visit to Uruguay, the team met with the main actors in charge of sustainability in the country

A team from the european program AL-INVEST Verde, led by FIIAPP, visited Uruguay to present the program to the public and private sectors, academia and international organizations, with the aim of identifying needs to promote sustainable agricultural and forestry value chains.

The mission was supported by the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (AUCI) and the Delegation of the European Union in Montevideo.

Uruguay is a priority country for the program because of its membership in MERCOSUR and the importance of its agricultural and forestry sectors, which account for 7.5% and 4.2% of GDP, respectively, and more than 70% of its exports.

FIIAPP was present at the meetings with the director of Component 2 of AL-INVEST Verde, Emilio Calvo, and the technical specialist, Rosa Oliva Ráez, together with Andrea Mónaco and Lorenzo Nalin, from the Italian-Latin American Institute (IILA), FIIAPP’s partners in the program.

During the visit, the team was received by the Ministers of Industry, Energy and Mining, Environment, Labor and Social Security, Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries. It also held meetings with various international organizations such as FAO, UNIDO, UNEP and IDB.

The visit also served to learn about the state of sustainability in the country, from a public and private point of view. Meetings were also held with the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU), the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA), the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay, the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), the National Development Agency (ANDE), the National Meat Institute (INAC) and the Uruguayan Exporters Union.
