S\u00e3o Paulo, 7 October 2025 - The second day of the closing event of Component 3 on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of the European Union's AL-INVEST Verde programme placed a strong emphasis on strengthening cooperation between Latin American and European judges and law enforcement authorities in the field of intellectual property. The high-level event started with interventions from the Escola Paulista de la Magistratura (EPM), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Directorate General for International Partnerships (INTPA) of the European Commission, co-organisers of the meeting.<\/p>

The highlight of the day was the presentation of the AL-INVEST Verde ECD Case Law Digest, one of the main outcomes of the AL-INVEST Verde Judges Network. The publication brings together landmark judicial decisions from across Latin America, conceived as a practical tool for judges, with the aim of fostering comparative analysis and promoting greater convergence of jurisprudence in the region.<\/p>

During the morning sessions, participants explored cooperation mechanisms to combat IPR infringements, the role of legal certainty in boosting the creative sector and swift judicial responses to online violations. Discussions also addressed the challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI), both for IP protection and judicial practice. In the afternoon, members of the Judicial Network met in a dedicated working session. The discussion focused on ensuring the sustainability of the Network beyond the project, with proposals for continued exchanges, joint publications and future training activities.<\/p>

These discussions were also linked to the European Union's wider work on case law. Through its Boards of Appeal, EUIPO contributes to the development of consistent decisions in trade mark and design matters, while its case law database eSearch Case Law and the activities of the EUIPO Observatory provide judges and practitioners with tools for comparative legal analysis and enhanced judicial cooperation.<\/p>

Looking ahead, the next edition of the AL-INVEST Next programme - currently under development - will continue to support various activities in Latin America and will expand its scope to the Caribbean as well, in close alignment with the priorities of the Global Gateway Investment Agenda.<\/p>

AL-INVEST Verde<\/a> - the EU-Latin America Partnership for Sustainable Growth and Jobs has a track record of more than 30 years.
