The Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa), with the support of the European Union's AL-INVEST Verde programme and the European Union Delegation in Chile, together with Eurochile, launched Phase II of the project to adapt the cattle and forestry chains to the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This milestone marks the beginning of a new phase of work aimed at strengthening institutional and sectoral capacities for the compliance with this European regulation<\/strong>, whose date of application to large and medium-sized operators, as well as micro and small enterprises, is pending review by the European Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the opening ceremony, the national director of Odepa, Andrea Garcia<\/strong>, emphasised that \u201cthis second phase represents a concrete step towards the implementation of practical solutions that will enable Chile to prepare adequately for the EUDR\u201d. He added that \u201cthe joint work with the European Union, AL-INVEST Verde and Eurochile reflects a shared commitment to advancing towards more sustainable and deforestation-free production, strengthening the competitiveness of the Chilean agroforestry sector\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For its part, Francisco Garc\u00eda<\/strong>, head of the International Cooperation Section of the European Union Delegation in Chile, pointed out that \u201cthis new stage consolidates long-term technical cooperation with the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture, within the framework of the green transition promoted by the European Union. The EUDR seeks to promote more sustainable and transparent supply chains, and Chile is a key partner in that objective.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the AL-INVEST Verde programme, Emilio Calvo<\/strong>, director of Component 2 \u2013 implemented by the Foundation for the Internationalisation of Public Administrations (FIAP) and the International Italo-Latin American Organisation (IILA) \u2013 highlighted that \u201cfollowing the diagnosis presented in the first phase, this project is now moving towards action, focusing on generating specific capacities, traceability tools and spaces for inter-institutional dialogue\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four components<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this Phase II, work will focus on four main components:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. The establishment of the Inter-institutional Technical Committee on EUDR, led by Odepa, to coordinate efforts between public institutions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The development of technical and training materials tailored to the realities of the cattle and forestry sectors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. The implementation of workshops and training sessions in key regions of the country.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. The creation of an EUDR web section on Odepa, which will centralise information, guidelines and updates on the implementation of the standard.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    This stage, which will take place between November 2025 and May 2026, with the support of Eurochile, seeks to consolidate Chile as a low-risk country and reliable partner for international markets, contributing to the sustainability and traceability of its agroforestry chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    About AL-INVEST Verde<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    AL-INVEST Verde is a European Union (EU) programme whose main objective is to promote sustainable growth and job creation in Latin America by supporting the transition towards a low-carbon, resource-efficient and more circular economy. Through Component 2, led by FIIAPP in consortium with IILA, the programme provides assistance for strengthening public policy and multi-stakeholder dialogues on sustainable agricultural and value chains, environmental and labour standards, as well as sustainable trade and economic policy and regulatory frameworks.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
