Santa Fe, 20 December 2022. <\/strong>The Government of Santa Fe, Argentina, and the Component 2<\/a> of AL-INVEST Verde have initiated a joint action for the strengthening of public policies on sustainability in the meat sector. Through this action, AL-INVEST Verde will provide support to the technical teams of the Ministry of Production, Science and Technology (MPCT) and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MACC) of the Province of Santa Fe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the launch event<\/a> Governor Omar Perotti presented the partnership together with representatives of AL-INVEST Verde. Perotti stressed that about 24% of Argentina's total exports come from Santa Fe.<\/strong>He said he was interested in showing how work is being done in the province, as well as \"learning from the development that the AL-INVEST Verde programme can show us in the territory\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"We open a necessary working instance<\/strong> We are also asking you to be the communicators of what you have seen, of how they are produced in our province,\" said Perotti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, the European Union's Business Attach\u00e9 in Argentina, Enrico Prezio, underlined that for Europe, \"... the European Union has a strong commitment to the European Union and its member states\".economic growth and environmental care are compatible elements<\/strong>\"He stressed the importance of the action presented. \"Being able to demonstrate that environmental and labour standards are respected is a factor of competitiveness where there is a constantly growing demand for these products. The initiative 'Strengthening the Santa Fe meat value chain in the European market' seeks traceability in the meat sector, a very relevant issue in view of the entry into force of the European Union's deforestation regulation, which aims to minimise the risk of deforestation and forest degradation associated with products that the EU imports or exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of this joint action, a review of the current socio-environmental policies implemented in the Province of Santa Fe will be carried out and a reflection on traceability systems and their relationship with a reduced risk of deforestation will be promoted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mission in Santa Fe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 12 to 16 December, Rosa Oliva R\u00e1ez and Graciela Froehlich, from AL-INVEST Verde, carried out a face-to-face mission to gather information on traceability actions implemented in the province of Santa Fe. Meetings were held with provincial technical teams and with actors from the public and private sector in Santa Fe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information collected during the mission is intended to contribute to the formulation of proposals for the improvement and innovation of Santa Fe's socio-environmental public policies.<\/strong>The EU's beef traceability systems, in particular, are a public policy tool to create a transparent beef value chain in line with European regulations, such as the deforestation regulation, which is key for trade with the EU.
