Montevideo, 18 May 2023.<\/strong> The AL-INVEST Verde Component 2<\/a> has begun providing technical assistance to the Directorate General of Forestry (DGF) of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay<\/strong> to promote a public certification system to guarantee the sustainable management of native forests. In this way, it hopes to help the preservation of forests<\/strong> and boost territorial economic development.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Currently, Uruguay's native forests are home to a high percentage of flora and fauna, as well as providing timber and non-timber products. However, they are facing degradation factors caused by agricultural expansion and the proliferation of invasive alien species.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The technical assistance provided by AL-INVEST Verde through IDAF<\/a> (Centro de Investigaciones Aplicadas al Desarrollo Agroforestal), aims to assist the biodiversity conservation<\/strong> and ensuring sustainable and responsible resource extraction processes<\/strong>. To this end, we will collaborate with the DGF, which is responsible for the conservation of the native forest in Uruguay.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Diagnosis and study<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Within the framework of the technical assistance, a diagnosis of the coastal zone<\/strong> of Uruguay and the characterisation of territorial actors and production value chains<\/strong> agro-exports. In addition, the following will be studied certification experiences<\/strong> and incentive schemes in both Latin America and the European Union and will be organized multi-stakeholder workshops <\/strong>to share good practices and exchange ideas in the territories.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The information obtained from the previous actions will be used to define a proposal for a certification and incentive scheme<\/strong> for the agro-export value chains identified in the coastal zone, as well as the roadmap for their implementation in the country (structure, functioning and accreditation).<\/p>\n
