Development of the forestry sector with a focus on sustainability
Through this action, the transition towards sustainability of the forestry chain in Paraguay was supported with the aim of increasing the volume exported to the usual trading countries and expanding into new markets. In particular, it seeks to strengthen trade with the European Union, in compliance with regulations such as the European Green Pact and the Regulation on supply chains free of deforestation and forest degradation. To this end, it collaborates with the Investment and Export Network (REDIEX) of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC), the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the National Forestry Institute (INFONA), the Paraguayan Federation of Loggers (FEPAMA) and the Caaguazú Loggers' Association (Asociación de Madereros de Caaguazú).
Implementation period: February 2023 - October 2023.
Results
- Evaluation of the current situation of the forestry sector in relation to the adoption and implementation of sustainable practices.
- Encourage the promotion of sustainability principles and criteria at the productive and industrial level.
- Capacity building sustainability of the actors involved in the forest value chain (producers, industries, etc.).
- Identify business opportunities and market access sustainable.

Work continues in Paraguay to support the sustainability of the forestry sectorl
Asunción, 02 March 2023. From 13 to 23 February, a technical mission was carried out in the country for the definition of sustainable strategies in the forestry sector. The mission counted with the participation of two Italian forestry experts collaborating with ETIFOR S.r.l. Benefit Company, a spin-off of the University of Padua, Italy, specialised in consultancy for sustainable and innovative solutions in the forestry sector.
The diagnosis of the forestry sector carried out by Component 2 is presented in Paraguay.
Asunción, 05 May 2023. Experts from AL-INVEST Verde presented to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC) of Paraguay the preliminary results of the diagnosis of the country's forestry sector. This analysis is part of the technical assistance that Component 2 of AL-INVEST Verde provides to the Investment and Export Network (REDIEX) to support the transition towards sustainability of the forestry chain in Paraguay.
Trade and sustainability exchange with Paraguay's forestry value chain
Asunción, 19 July 2023. Three exchange sessions on trade and sustainability were held with different actors of the forest value chain. During the meetings, organised by the company ETIFOR Srl, spin-off of the University of Padua in charge of the technical assistance, presented the results of the diagnosis The study was carried out following a fact-finding mission last February.
Specialists from Paraguay and Uruguay analyse policies for the development of the forestry sector
Asunción, 20 July 2023. The headquarters of the Paraguayan Investment and Export Network (REDIEX), under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC), hosted a session for the exchange of experiences between Paraguay and Uruguay on policies for the development of the forestry sector. Participants included Carlos Faroppa, Director General of Forestry of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay, and Leonardo Boragno, advisor to the Directorate General of Forestry.
Uruguay and Paraguay visit agroforestry certification experiences in Spain
Madrid, 13 October 2023. A delegation of technicians from the Directorate General of Forestry of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (DGF-MGAP) of Uruguay and the Investment and Export Network (REDIEX) of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Paraguay visited Spain from 25 to 29 September to learn about agroforestry certification experiences.
