Santiago Chamber of Commerce leads day to circularise eCommerce packaging at Ladera Sur 2023 Festival

Lima, 21 November 2023 - The Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CCS) participated in the 2nd Ladera Sur Festival, an activity focused on the care of nature and the environment. The guild had a module in the Mercado Bosque sector, in which it presented its project of Sustainable Packaging for E-Commercewhich is developed in the framework of Component 1 of the AL-INVEST Verde programme.

A Circular Day was held on Friday 10 November, with an open seminar to inspire and put into context the main challenges of the sector. The session was attended by María Teresa Vial, president of CCS, Andrea Nicolaj, from the Delegation of the European Union in Chile, and the Uruguayan expert in circular economy Giselle Della Mea, founder of 3 Vectors, who gave a keynote speech entitled "Designing a world without waste".

This was followed by a panel discussion to review the local reality, entrepreneurial opportunities and business models that are envisioned for Chile. This panel included the participation of Ximena Ruz, executive director of the Sustainability and Climate Change Agency, Eliana Moreno, CEO of UNIBAG, and Raúl Troncoso, assistant manager ESG of Cencosud, who contributed different visions from the public and private world in the Thinking Outside the Box: The Future of E-Commerce Packaging" panelwhich was moderated by Verónica Torres, Sustainability Manager at CCS.

During the afternoon, the challenges and opportunities were discussed in depth with more than 60 participants who have been carefully selected to represent the different sectors of e-commerce packaging in Chile. The event was attended by the main B2C, fullfilment and last mile companies who gathered together with packaging suppliers, experts in eco-design, circular economy and organisations dedicated to promoting the country's circular economy agenda, such as the Ministry of the Environment, CORFO, the Plastics Industry Association (ASIPLA), the Chilean Packaging Centre (CENEM), Fundación Chile, the Agency for Sustainability and Climate Change (ASCC), Gransic de Envases y Embalajes, among others, will work under the methodological approach Circular Design Thinking™, to rethink in a systemic and collaborative way, in proposals for new solutions to reduce the environmental impact generated by e-commerce packaging.

Verónica Torres, Sustainability Manager at CCS, said that "It has been a tremendous opportunity to share our project at the II Ladera Sur Festival, it is an issue we see every day as consumers and we want to be part of the solution, challenging us to reduce excess packaging and mobilising us to look for innovative and more sustainable solutions.
