DIALOGUES ON SUSTAINABILITY AND TRACEABILITY OF MEAT AND LEATHER VALUE CHAINS IN BRAZIL

Below are the executive summaries (in English) of the three technical dialogues organised throughout 2022, in partnership with the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM), to discuss the challenges, opportunities and future efforts for the sustainability and traceability of the meat and leather value chains in Brazil.

The AL-INVEST Verde programme, as a part of the first dialogue focused on due diligence. It reflected on its influence on the regularisation of the aforementioned value chains, as well as the challenges and opportunities it poses for the sector.

In the second dialogueThe importance of access to technology to improve the sustainability of these chains was discussed. Coordination and information exchange emerged as two important factors, as well as networking, to support the development of traceability systems.

The AL-INVEST Verde programme, as a part of the third dialogue The importance of traceability and its implications in different areas, such as the fight against illegal deforestation and transparency in the sector, were discussed.

Finally, the closing conference of the dialogues. This event took place in Brasilia (Brazil) on 15 September 2022. It brought together Brazilian and European experts, authorities and private sector representatives. The conclusions of the previous dialogues and good practices for the improvement of transparency and traceability of the chains were shared.
