Virtual Workshop on Plant Variety Licensing for public institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises

The workshop will start with an introduction highlighting the importance of PVP licensing in the agricultural and research sectors. Linear models and their relevance in this context will be explored, as well as a discussion on the creation of spin-offs as a strategy for the commercialisation of plant varieties.

Another section will focus on the establishment of a Variety Protection Office (VPO), covering the legal steps and requirements, along with examples of best practices. In addition, the essential legal aspects of plant variety licensing contracts will be discussed, along with key considerations for ensuring equitable agreements.

We will also present successful cases of plant variety protection and licensing: Embrapa Rice and Beans (Brazil) and Pantanoso del Sauce (Uruguay).

The objective is to broaden the knowledge on the commercialisation of PVP-protected plant varieties, benefiting a relevant public in Latin American countries.

This workshop is a follow-up to the event held in 2022, which generated a great deal of interest in the field of plant varieties, as evidenced by the high attendance and the results of the satisfaction surveys.
