Dialogues on sustainable coffee
As part of this action, AL-INVEST Verde/Component 2 participated in the 44th International Artisan Ice Cream, Pastry, Bakery and Coffee Fair, SIGEP, and organised three round tables and a closing event in Colombia, as part of the cycle "Dialogue and exchange of experiences on sustainability in the coffee value chain".. Representatives from the European Union and countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, as well as other Latin American coffee producing countries and international organisations have participated.
Implementation period: January 2023 - December 2023.
Results
- Progress in the dialogue between Latin American coffee-producing countries.
- Promotion of dialogue between the European and Latin American parties stakeholders in building a sustainable, inclusive and deforestation-free value chain, focusing on the tools and practices that are needed to address this challenge.
- Cycle of three virtual roundtables and a face-to-face closing event on the main public sector initiatives to promote a sustainable coffee chain, with particular emphasis on the challenges of European regulations.
- Participation of the different actors in the chain - public sector, productive sector, importers, etc. - from the Andean countries, in particular, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, together with Brazil.

Fighting deforestation
During the closing of the dialogues in Pitalito, Huila (Colombia), we looked at how to combat deforestation and forest degradation caused by production processes. We asked international organisations and producer countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras and Peru how to address this challenge and comply with the European Union Regulation 2023/1115 on deforestation and forest degradation free supply chains (EUDR). Colombia hosts the closing event of the "Dialogues on sustainable coffee".
14 December 2023. AL-INVEST Verde organised in Pitalito, Huila (Colombia), the closing event of the cycle "Dialogue and exchange of experiences on sustainability in the coffee value chain".. On 13 and 14 December, systems and instruments for the traceability of the coffee value chain, challenges and opportunities in the region were analysed.
Dialogue on corporate due diligence in the coffee sector
25 July 2023. On 20 July, AL-INVEST Verde organised the round table discussion "Coffee and the European Corporate Due Diligence Directive".The meeting was attended by representatives of the European Commission, coffee producing countries such as Brazil and Colombia, and international organisations working in the field.
Dialogue on the EU regulation on deforestation-free chains in the coffee sector
06 June 2023. Component 2 of AL-INVEST Verde organised the round table "Coffee and the EU regulation on deforestation-free chains".The event was attended by representatives of the European Union and countries such as Brazil, Ecuador and Peru, as well as other Latin American coffee producing countries.
Sharing experiences on sustainability in the coffee value chain
18 April 2023. The Component 2 of AL-INVEST Verde organised the round table "Support programmes and instruments for sustainability in the coffee value chain".The meeting was attended by representatives from Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, among other major coffee-producing countries.
AL-INVEST Verde promotes dialogue on coffee and sustainability in Latin America at SIGEP international exhibition in Italy
