Action. Support the development of a national leather traceability and certification strategy.

Through this action, the EU collaborates with the Investment and Exports Network (REDIEX), a body under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC) of Paraguay, to define sustainable strategies in the Paraguayan leather sector. Currently, the European Union (EU) is Paraguay's third most important trading partner, with 6 % of the country's total trade. Among the products derived from agricultural production most imported by the EU, hides and skins and leather have historically been very relevant, although current international trade rules require the sustainability of production, so it is necessary to have a strategy that traces the product throughout the production chain.

Implementation period: December 2022 - June 2023.

Expected results

Diagnosis on the structure of the Paraguayan meat and leather value chain, and analysis comparative study of the Paraguayan Traceability System (SITRAP) and the Paraguayan Animal Identification System (SIAP).
Programme of exchange of experiences on traceability and certification for international markets, between REDIEX technicians and international and/or regional experts.
Design of a traceability and certification pilot project of Paraguayan meat and leather.
Socialisation of the project through seminars with actors of the leather production chain in Paraguay.
Socialisation of the project through international seminars with business partners Paraguay.

AL-INVEST Verde collaborates with REDIEX in Paraguay to support the traceability of the leather production process and its certification.

Asunción, 19 December 2022. Component 2 and the Paraguayan Investment and Export Network (REDIEX) are initiating a joint action to promote the development of a national strategy to establish the traceability of the leather production process.

Presentation to Argentina and Paraguay of the Selo Verde traceability system, implemented in the Brazilian state of Pará.
