Presentation to Argentina and Paraguay of the Selo Verde traceability system, implemented in the Brazilian state of Pará.

Madrid, 23rd January 2023. Through the Component 2AL-INVEST Verde organised the presentation to Argentina and Paraguay of the Selo Verde platform, a traceability system. public and free of charge implemented in the state of Pará, Brazil.

The presentation took place online, through the Zoom platform, and was attended by representatives of the EU delegations in Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil, the European Commission and the AL-INVEST Verde programme.

Also present from Argentina were representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Production, Science and Technology and the Secretariat for International Cooperation of the Province of Santa Fe, as well as the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA). From Paraguay, members of the Investment and Export Network (REDIEX), an agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC), and the Rural Association of Paraguay participated.

The presentation was given by Felipe Nunes, director of the Territorial Intelligence Centre (CIT) and researcher at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). Both institutions collaborated in the development of this traceability system, which Nunes explained, analyses compliance with socio-environmental standards and, in particular, the absence of production-related deforestation.

To this end, the platform integrates data from federal and state institutions, satellite imagery maps and geospatial analysis, allowing for detailed reports on the social and environmental compliance of farms registered in the Rural Environmental Register (CAR).

Currently, the AL-INVEST Verde programme, through Component 2, is working to support the implementation of the Selo Verde platform in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. In addition, it provides technical assistance to the Government of Santa FeArgentina, for the strengthening of public policies on sustainability in the meat and poultry sector. collaborates with REDIEX in Paraguay to support the traceability of the leather production process and its certification.

Within the framework of these collaborations, the regional presentation of the platform was coordinated with the aim of exchanging experiences and analysing possibilities for implementation through existing assistance.
