Roll-out of the Selo Verde platform in Bahía
In partnership with the Bahia State Environment Secretariat (SEMA-BA) and the Centre for Territorial Intelligence (CIT) at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), support is being provided for the roll-out of the Selo Verde platform as a public traceability system for cocoa and soya. Bahia is the largest state in north-eastern Brazil and the one with the highest number of rural properties registered in the National Rural Environmental Registry System (SICAR).
Implementation period: March 2026 – November 2026.
Expected results
- Integrate and consolidate geospatial and non-geospatial data (database) at national level.
- Develop analytical tools automated system for monitoring compliance with the Forestry Code and analysing the CAR (Rural Environmental Register).
- To have public data which contribute to strengthening environmental governance and traceability.
- Consolidate the results from the automated CAR analyses and environmental compliance assessments of all rural properties registered in the CAR system in the state of Bahia.
- Support the government strategies relating to environmental compliance, deforestation monitoring and market access.
- Identifying properties and territories with potential for environmental compliance processes, ecological restoration and the implementation of incentive policies, such as payments for ecosystem services.
