PARAGUAY
Developing an environmental traceability platform for beef and leather
Through this action, support is provided to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC) of Paraguay through the Polytechnic Faculty of the National University of Asuncion (UNA) for the implementation of an inclusive and public socio-environmental traceability system, which is easily accessible to producers. During the first phase, the functioning of the system, which will use publicly available data, was designed. In this way, it will be possible to monitor the territory, develop public policies and reduce costs for the private sector. The ultimate goal is to try to ensure a fully traceable supply chain for leather products by tracking cattle from farms to slaughterhouses, tanneries and finally to markets.

Implementation period: July - December 2023 (design of system operation) / September 2024 - September 2025 (design of platform)

Expected results
- Software architecture definition to be used by the system: structure, organisation and relationship between the components.
- Creation of a database of full-cycle establishments or establishments registered in the Traceability System of Paraguay (SITRAP). This database will include data relevant for compliance with the European Union Deforestation Free Regulation (EUDR).
- Algorithm development and model simulation for deforestation detection and EUDR compliance.
- Development of an online traceability platform with different layers of information agreed between all stakeholders: government, producer and industrial associations, academia and civil society. The platform will be created with information from the register of establishments with socio-environmental traceability (RETSA) within the Single Window for Exports (VUE) system of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIC).
