Mapping of coffee, cocoa and forests and implementation of the SeloVerde traceability platform in the state of Espírito Santo.

Together with the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Supply, Aquaculture and Fisheries (SEAG) of the Government of Espírito Santo, the Espírito Santo Foundation for Research and Innovation Support (FAPES), the Territorial Intelligence Centre of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (CIT/UFMG), the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) and the Capixaba Institute for Research, Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (Incaper), the areas of coffee, cocoa and planted forests are mapped, the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) and the Capixaba Institute for Research, Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (Incaper), are mapping the coffee, cocoa and planted forest production areas of Espírito Santo to implement Selo Verde in this state. Espírito Santo is currently the second largest coffee producer in Brazil and the third largest cocoa producer.

Implementation period: June 2024 - June 2026.

Expected results

  1. Map agricultural production plots for coffee, cocoa and timber. to obtain a detailed description of the evolution of land use, identify areas with deforestation or forest degradation, anticipate potential environmental and social impacts, ensure the rational use of natural resources, protect biodiversity and improve people's quality of life.

  2. Developing the SeloVerde-ES platform (Espírito Santo) to provide accurate and up-to-date data on agricultural production and compliance with the Forest Code for more than 100,000 registered rural properties in the State.

  3. Increasing transparency on environmental compliance in coffee, cocoa and timber production, as well as facilitating the exchange of information along the supply chain.

  4. To have a public tool for efficient management, decision making and policy development oriented towards agriculture, natural resource management and the promotion of the conservation of natural ecosystems.

European EUDR monitoring and enforcement authorities visit Espírito Santo (Brazil) in the context of AL-INVEST Verde initiatives

 

Espírito Santo, 12 December 2024. A delegation of competent and supervisory authorities from Spain, Italy, Belgium and Ireland visited Espírito Santo, Brazil, from 6 to 9 December to learn about the traceability initiatives supported by AL-INVEST Verde and other sustainable agricultural production actions developed by the state.
