URUGUAY

Traceability of the timber and timber products value chain

Through this action, support is provided to the Forest Management Division of the General Forestry Directorate (DGF) of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) for the development of the “Planted Forest” module in the National Forest Information System. At present, this system has the first module, corresponding to native forest. The new module will enable the traceability of the timber value chain and its derivatives, as well as its communication to users, as it will provide official data to the public platform of Deforestation Free Chains developed by the Government of Uruguay to collect information for the European Deforestation Free Regulation (EUDR).

Implementation period: September 2025 - September 2026.

Expected results

  1. Collecting and exchanging data on forest ownership and area: ownership data, date of planting and harvesting, location, area of planted forest and management.

  2. Monitoring The EU is a key to adapting the timber and timber products value chain to the transparency and traceability requirements of the EUDR.

  3. Facilitating the administration and continuous updating of information, improve the transparency in the management processes and optimising resources used in the production of official statistics by the State.

  4. To provide reliable and accessible information to decision-makers in the forestry sector.
