Digital Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights Forum: Navigating the Future of Creative Industries in MERCOSUR Countries and Chile

Montevideo, Uruguay is hosting a forum on Digital Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining of Uruguay through the National Directorate of Industrial Property (DNPI), the Presidency of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, through the Agency for e-Government and Information and Knowledge Society (AGESIC), and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay through the Creative Industries Department (Dicrea).

Other partners of the event are the Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency (ACAU), the Copyright Council and the General Association of Authors of Uruguay (AGADU).

This forum seeks to foster dialogue between the European Union and the countries of MERCOSUR and Latin America on the challenges of digital innovation.

The event addresses the impact of emerging technologies such as AI on the creative sectors in MERCOSUR countries and Chile, with the aim of finding strategies to address these challenges.

Recent EU IP policies, including the Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market, set the tone for global IP regulations. The forum invites experts to discuss how disruptive technologies affect the production, distribution and monetisation of content in sectors such as music, audiovisual, publishing and video games.

A central theme is the relationship between AI and intellectual property rights, including the challenges and opportunities posed by AI-generated content such as ChatGPT and DALL-E 2. The forum is aimed at creators, policy makers, legislators, judges and legal practitioners involved in intellectual property law.
