Implementation of the SeloVerde traceability platform in the state of Minas Gerais.
In collaboration with the State Forestry Institute (IEF) of Minas Gerais (Brazil), support is provided for the development and implementation of the platform. SeloVerde MG in this state. This tool contributes to promoting socio-environmental sustainability in the coffee, livestock and soy value chains, by collecting useful information to verify compliance with the requirements of the European Deforestation Free Products Regulation. The platform is being implemented by the Territorial Intelligence Centre/Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), with the support of Component 2 of AL-INVEST Verde.
Implementation period: February 2023 - July 2024.
Expected results
- Development of a digital model for the socio-environmental compliance analysis of rural properties.
- Socio-environmental compliance assessment of coffee, soybean and livestock plantations on rural properties registered in the Rural Environmental Cadastre (CAR).
- Development of the digital platform Seloverde MG.
- Organisation of events for socialise the SeloVerde MG platform with the private sector, civil society and EU authorities.
- Development of a practical due diligence guide based on the SeloVerde MG platform.

Presentation to Argentina and Paraguay of the Selo Verde traceability system, implemented in the Brazilian state of Pará.
Madrid, 23rd January 2023. AL-INVEST Verde organised the presentation to Argentina and Paraguay of the Selo Verde platform, a free public traceability system implemented in the state of Pará, Brazil.
Support to Minas Gerais (Brazil) in coffee chain traceability
Brazil, 25 May 2023. AL-INVEST Verde is supporting the development of the SeloVerde MG IT platform in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. This system analyses rural coffee properties and, by cross-checking data and images, determines the sustainability of the production process and, among other issues, that it is not associated with deforestation and forest degradation.
Representatives of Minas Gerais present the Selo Verde MG platform to the European Commission, which will enable progress in socio-environmental traceability.
06 July 2023. Representatives of the European Commission, the State of Minas Gerais and the Federal University of Minas Gerais participated in a virtual meeting where the progress of the SeloVerde MG IT platform was presented and the next steps in its development were analysed.
Brazilian Government of Minas Gerais presents the Selo Verde platform, supported by AL-INVEST Verde
Minas Gerais (Brazil), 15 March 2024. The Government of Minas Gerais, through the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (SEAPA), and the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) presented to AL-INVEST Verde representatives the sustainable production of the main agricultural commodities exported and the SeloVerde MG platform, which is supported by this programme.
First shipment of deforestation-free coffee from Brazil to Europe
Minas Gerais (Brazil), 26 July 2024. On 27 July, the first shipment of coffee from Minas Gerais, Brazil, which complies with the requirements of the EU's EU Deforestation and Forest Degradation Free Regulation (EUDR), was made. The shipment left the port of Santos and is scheduled to arrive on 21 August in Dublin, Ireland.
