Inclusive transition to a low-carbon economy in SMEs in the Mining Triangle.
The project is developed by the Associação Comercial e Industrial de Uberlândia - ACIUB and focuses on SMEs in the Mining Triangle increasing their sales and adopting more resource-efficient products, processes and services towards a circular economy model. The actions were built based on the country's strategies, its National Solid Waste Plan and municipal guidelines for sustainable development. By 2040, Brazilian municipalities should reach their waste reduction targets. Thus, ACIUB will support SMEs in the region to anticipate their transformation towards more sustainable processes and become more competitive in this area, and stakeholders to drive an inclusive transition from the linear to the circular economy.
As part of its implementation, the project has been financing conferences, workshops and technical assistance involving public and private institutions, establishing alliances between the education sector, civil society and the business sector. The activities focus on the importance of sustainable consumption with a focus on reducing environmental impact. In summary, it is expected that:
- 1,200 companies to be sensitised by the beginning of 2024;
- 800 companies are diagnosed by 2024;
- 500 companies have individual action plans and are trained by 2024;
- 250 enterprises have some form of improvement in their economic practices by the end of the project;
- 80 companies have sustainability labels by the end of the project.
It also promotes research and studies on technologies and systems that can contribute to better environmental and municipal solid waste management, which will result in effective actions to stimulate the economy and create green jobs in the region.
