Session of the Working Group for the preparation of a 'Compendium of Intellectual Property Jurisprudence of MERCOSUR and Chile'.

Montevideo, Uruguay hosts a working group session as part of the preparation of a 'Compendium of IP Jurisprudence of MERCOSUR and Chile'. This initiative aims to compile relevant case studies for the 'Network for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights AL-INVEST Verde', fostering collaboration between judges in industrial property matters. Previous sessions were held in Jamaica and Paraguay, where various IP rights were discussed.

The workshop focuses on training judges from MERCOSUR countries and Chile on non-traditional trademark infringement, updating them on EU and regional initiatives and recent case law. It also aims to strengthen a Latin American enforcement network and promote cooperation between judicial bodies.

The session includes presentations on EU case law on non-traditional trade marks and national cases from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. EUIPO expert Virginia Melgar will provide information on EU legal developments. Discussions will include the addition of entries to the digest of case law and future activities of the initiative.

About the digest of case law

The Compendium of IPR case law will serve as a repository of regional case law, assisting in the interpretation of IP law and promoting European best practices. It aims to develop a shared knowledge base focused on trade mark issues, providing valuable information for enforcement institutions, practitioners, judges and policy makers.
