Smart Agriculture Model for sustainability and traceability of agro-sustainable value chains

The main objective of the project is to increase the capacity of the agri-food supply of cocoa in Colombia, in line with the sustainability and traceability criteria required by the European Green Pact. To achieve this objective, it seeks to consolidate sustainable, controlled and standardised agricultural production in Colombia and Peru. This will be achieved through capacity building actions for cocoa producers, focusing on the sustainability of their agricultural practices.
Another key aspect of the project is the strengthening of standardisation and marketing of sustainable agricultural production. A set of standards and collaborative supply chain arrangements will be identified and adopted, enabling effective technology transfer to support marketing processes both locally and internationally.
In addition, a technological platform specialised in the traceability of agro-sustainable products will be designed and implemented, with a particular focus on MSMEs in the agricultural sector. This platform will guarantee the availability of reliable information throughout the value chain, enabling producers to comply with the requirements demanded in foreign trade, especially in European markets.
The project also contemplates the development of an operational and financial sustainability model that ensures the continuity of traceability actions and the strengthening of small producers' capacities. This model will be key to attracting resources and applying them to different sources of financing that will enable the sustainable development of agro-sustainable value chains.
Finally, the results include the creation of a supply of sustainable cocoa products, the implementation of eco-efficiency actions, the consolidation of a collaborative network between Europe and Latin America, and the development of capacities to ensure the financial sustainability of the project and its beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries:
The beneficiaries of the project include producer organisations of the RED CACAOTERA and cocoa-producing families in Colombia, specifically in the departments of Magdalena, Caquetá, Boyacá, Meta and Arauca. Producer organisations play a crucial role in marketing, technical assistance and financing, although they face challenges in their commercial structure. The project will provide them with technological and management tools to improve their sustainable cocoa supply and financial autonomy. The producer families, who own small farms with low productivity, will benefit from improvements in sustainability and access to international markets, taking advantage of the high genetic quality of their cocoa.
