Component 3 of AL-INVEST Verde for intellectual property rights (IPR), AL-INVEST Verde IPR, implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), has produced a comprehensive study on the modernisation of Paraguay's Design Law No. 868/81.

Between April and November, AL-INVEST Verde IPR provided technical support to Paraguay's National Intellectual Property Directorate (DINAPI). As part of this support, the weaknesses of the current legal framework were analysed, initiatives for its updating were proposed, and strategic guidelines for the implementation of new regulations were established.

This reform seeks to ensure clearer, more consistent and rigorous design evaluation processes in Paraguay, while offering fair protection to rights holders and stimulating creative development and innovation at the national level.

The report will serve as the main input for Paraguayan authorities to develop a draft law on designs. This development represents a significant milestone in strengthening the country's intellectual property regime, particularly with regard to industrial designs, and in bringing it into line with international and European standards. It also highlights the importance of the European Union's support in the process of modernising intellectual property systems globally.
