AL-INVEST Verde DPI highlights the importance of intellectual property in sustainable development at Inova Amazônia 2025 Summit

IPR Component 3 had a prominent participation in the Inova Amazônia 2025 Summit, which took place in Macapá (Brazil) from 21-23 May. This event, considered the most relevant on bioeconomy in the Amazon region, brought together more than 5,000 entrepreneurs, innovators, investors and sustainability advocates to build a greener future for the Amazon.

Following the positive impact of its participation in the previous edition, AL-INVEST Verde IPR returned this year with the aim of reinforcing the message about the relevance of intellectual property (IP) rights as key tools to foster sustainable development and more equitable economic growth in the region.

In the framework of the Summit, Component 3 intervened on 23 May in the panel "Amazonian Narratives: Using IPRs to promote Amazonian forest products", which highlighted how IP can protect and enhance the commercialisation of Amazonian products, while respecting biodiversity and the cultural traditions of local communities.

The participation of Component 3, implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in this event reaffirms its commitment to the green transition in Europe by promoting the protection of sustainable innovation through intellectual property rights. This work is also in line with the EU's strategic priorities for COP30, to be held in Belém (Brazil) in November 2025, highlighting the need for sustainable solutions adapted to local contexts to address global environmental challenges.
