Supporting Sustainable Development and Energy Efficiency in the Caribbean Region of Colombia

The project seeks to support the energy transition and the adoption of sustainable practices in the productive fabric of the Colombian Caribbean region.

To this end, the aim is to raise the awareness of the companies participating in the project through group training, sustainability diagnosis and identification of opportunities for improvement. It will also seek the training of "Future Energy Auditors" and the implementation of energy efficiency plans. In addition, it is structured around five components:

1. Awareness-raising and selection of companies: Awareness-raising workshops in which 800 MSMEs participate and at least 500 MSMEs sign their commitment to participate in the project. Among the MSMEs invited to the workshops, at least 15% will be led and/or managed by women and 5% will be led and/or managed by young people (<30 years old). These workshops will help companies to see the importance of using more efficient and sustainable business models.

2. Group trainings: Training aimed at companies that sign their commitment to participate (500), in content related to sustainable, efficient and more circular practices, encouraging their adoption by companies. 800 MSME employees will participate (200 will be women and 100 young people under 30 years of age).

3. Diagnosis of sustainability and identification of opportunities for improvement: A sustainability diagnosis is carried out for 400 participating MSMEs (digital tool) that will provide information on the current state of MSMEs in the Caribbean Region in the field of the circular economy and energy efficiency, and identify opportunities for improvement for each of them (400), which they can implement, making their businesses more efficient and sustainable.

4. Training of "Future Energy Auditors".Professionals (25) who develop their professional career in the field of energy efficiency and who, once the project is completed, continue working for MSMEs in the Caribbean Region on Energy Efficiency Plans. For this purpose, a theoretical and practical training process is proposed for these auditors, and at the end of it they will obtain a Certificate issued by the requesting Chambers of Commerce.

5. Implementation of Energy Efficiency Plans in 50 companies, incorporating innovative energy efficiency practices in their businesses to reduce their carbon footprint and CO2 emissions, as well as to increase their own profitability. To this end, they will receive 30 hours of specialised technical assistance. This is a pilot project that is expected to generate a knock-on effect for the implementation of energy efficiency practices among the productive fabric of the Caribbean Region of Colombia.
