Argentina hosts workshop on exports of agricultural bio-inputs to the European Union

The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (SAGyP) of Argentina hosted the technical workshop "Export of Argentinean bio-inputs to the European Union". The workshop was given by the Italian Council for Research in Agriculture and Analysis of the Agricultural Economy, CREA, in the framework of the technical assistance provided by AL-INVEST Verde to SAGyP.

The inauguration was chaired by Agustín Tejeda, Undersecretary of Agrifood Markets and International Insertion of the SAGyP; Enrico Prezio, from the Commercial and Economic Section of the Delegation of the European Union in Argentina; Andrea Damiani, programme manager of AL-INVEST Verde; Alessandra Trinchera, research director of CREA and Maria Antonietta Delicato, researcher at CREA.

Representatives of the main chambers of the sector (CABIO, CIAFA and CASAFE) and private companies, together with officials from SAGyP, INTA (National Institute of Agricultural Technology) and SENASA (National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality) also participated in the event.

During the workshop, the import of bio-inputs into the European Union was analysed and the results of a series of interviews with European associations, companies and service providers were presented in order to identify the main difficulties they face in importing Argentinean biofertilisers.

These findings served as the basis for a subsequent discussion, which analysed the barriers to accessing the European market and shared proposals for overcoming the regulatory, logistical and commercial obstacles that, it was explained, limit the competitiveness of the sector.

At the conclusion of the workshop, attendees highlighted the importance of the cooperation between public institutions, chambers and companies to facilitate the insertion of Argentine bioinputs in international markets and promote a more sustainable and competitive agricultural model.
