More than 500 people participated in the Cocoa Traceability Fair-Forum held on 19 and 20 March in the villages of El Coca and Puerto Murialdo (Loreto), in the province of Orellana, Ecuador. Both days were attended by producers, as well as institutional representatives and representatives of the export sector.
During the two days, technical information and practical tools were shared to contribute to the development and improvement of the cocoa production chain. The aim was to strengthen this process in Orellana, where there is a high cocoa presence and where the project is being carried out. Trainer of Trainers II, The project, promoted by AL-INVEST Verde and Agrocalidad, with the technical support of Trias.
Through this project, 143 implementers and 7 trainers have been trained in Orellana., These people will play a key role in accompanying actors in the cocoa chain to register their farms in Agrocalidad's GUIA System. During these days, some of these people received diplomas to register 30,000 cocoa producers in the GUIA System.
Registration in the GUIA System allows to strengthen the cocoa traceability by recording the geo-referencing of farms, which facilitates compliance with the European Union's EU Deforestation Free Regulation (EUDR). It therefore becomes a strategic tool that generates key information.
The “Trainer of Trainers II” project strengthens the capacities of actors in the cocoa value chain in the territory to support compliance with EUDR requirements. At the national level, 1,885 implementers have been trained, who will contribute to the process of registering 30,000 cocoa producers in the GUIA system.
