Component 3 for Intellectual Property Rights, implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), held the fifth Virtual Meeting with intellectual property (IP) experts from MERCOSUR countries and Chile on 4 June 2025. This technical session focused on TMview, the global trademark search tool developed by EUIPO, with the aim of promoting its adoption and assessing its impact in the region.
This event is part of a series of EU virtual exchanges aimed at strengthening cooperation between the IP offices of MERCOSUR, Chile and the European Union. Through these regular meetings, good practices are shared and the joint development of innovative and user-centred IP solutions is promoted, thus fostering more harmonised, efficient and accessible trademark, design and model systems.
During the day, dialogue and collaboration with national IP offices from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay was promoted. Presentations addressed the latest updates on TMview and its functioning, while participants shared practical experiences and strategies to facilitate effective integration.
Key issues included improving data quality, strengthening institutional commitment and overcoming common challenges in the implementation of the tool. The exchange allowed progress towards stronger regional cooperation and a shared vision of modern, accessible IP services adapted to the real needs of users.
TMview, developed by EUIPO, provides access to more than 130 million registered trade marks in 79 participating offices, and has facilitated more than 144 million searches since its launch in 2010. This tool contributes to transparency and consistency in access to trade mark information at the international level. Through collaborations such as this one with the MERCOSUR and Chilean offices, EUIPO seeks to foster more effective and harmonised IP frameworks, thus supporting more robust innovation ecosystems.
