AL-INVEST Verde promotes sustainable value chains in Uruguay

Montevideo, June 1, 2022. A team from AL INVEST Verde (Component 2), led by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Public Administration and Policy (FIIAPP)in consortium with the International Italo-Latin American Organisation (IILA), visited Uruguay to present the programme to the public and private sector, academia and international organisations, and identifying needs to boost sustainable agricultural and forestry value chains.  

The mission was supported by the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (AUCI) and the Delegation of the European Union in Montevideo.   

Uruguay is a priority country for the programme because of its membership of MERCOSUR and the importance of its agricultural and forestry sector.accounting for 7.5 % and 4.2 % of GDP, respectively, and more than 70 % of its exports.

On behalf of FIIAP, the meetings were attended by the director of Component 2 of AL INVEST Verde, Emilio Calvo, and the technical specialist, Rosa Oliva, together with Andrea Monaco and Lorenzo Nalin, from the Italian-Latin American Institute (IILA), partners of FIIAPP in the programme.

During their visit, the team was received by the ministers of Industry, Energy and Mining; Environment; Labour and Social Security; and Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries.. He also held meetings with various international organisations such as FAO, UNIDO, UNEP and IDB.

The visit also served to learn about the state of sustainability in the country, both from a public and private point of view. Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU), the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INIA), Technological University of Uruguaythe Chamber of Industries of Uruguaythe National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII), the National Development Agency (ANDE), the National Meat Institute (INAC) and the Union of Exporters of Uruguay.
