The project "A Coffee for Sustainability and Productivity: Smart communities for climate change adaptation and mitigation and regeneration of coffee landscapes" has the overall objective of promoting smart, sustainable and regenerative coffee value chains in Risaralda, raising the competitiveness of MYPIMES, strengthening food security and productivity, boosting local economic development and preserving ecosystems through community collaboration. This holistic approach is materialised through a series of specific objectives that include the design and implementation of a participatory and technological model of sustainability, the facilitation of relevant certifications and the establishment of direct marketing channels.
The project is being developed in Belén de Umbría, Santuario and Quinchía, Colombia, and a series of tangible results are expected, such as the widespread adoption of sustainable practices, increased certifications, economic growth, reduced resource use and ecological restoration, among others. To achieve these results, an intervention logic has been established which is broken down into three interconnected work packages. The first focuses on the collaborative design of a digital platform for sustainability and productivity, while the second focuses on transforming the coffee value chain through practical activities and organisational capacity building.
Finally, the third work package seeks to establish connections with emerging markets to promote agro-ecological and community-based value chains, including business opportunities with the European Union. These packages will be developed in parallel and strategically, ensuring a comprehensive and progressive intervention that fosters positive change in coffee-growing communities. Overall, this project represents a collective effort towards sustainability, productivity and resilience in the region's coffee sector, strengthening both the local economy and environmental conservation.
