AL-INVEST Verde presents the Selo Verde traceability platform in Europe - Minas Gerais, Brazil

AL-INVEST Verde has presented the traceability platform to public and private sector actors in Italy and Spain. SeloVerde-MG (Minas Gerais). This platform, supported by AL-INVEST Verde, contributes to promoting socio-environmental sustainability. in the coffee, livestock and soy value chains.

From 21 to 24 October, Felipe Nunes, director of the Territorial Intelligence Centre (CIT) and researcher at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil, responsible for the development of the platform, met with competent authorities and state control authorities in Spain and Italy.

In view of the forthcoming entry into force of the European regulation on deforestation-free products (EUDR), the competent authorities designated by the Member States shall be responsible for carrying out controls to determine whether operators and traders established in the European Union comply with the EUDR.

In Italy, meetings were organised in Bologna, Pesaro, Milan and Rome. Meetings were held with the Italian Association of Grain Manufacturers (ANACER); the company COSMOB, representing the wood certification sector; the National Union of the Tanning Industry (UNIC) and the Quality Certification Institute for the Leather Industry (ICEC), the main Italian actors in the leather sector; as well as with the Comando Unità Forestale dei Carabinieri - the control authority - and the Ministry of Agriculture (MASAF) - the competent authority.

In Spain, a meeting took place in Madrid with representatives of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MiTEco), the competent authority in Spain. During this meeting, the characteristics of the platform and its potential to support the due diligence process required by the EUDR were analysed.

The platform SeloVerde-MG ensures the environmental traceability of products impacted by the EUDR, such as coffee, livestock and soybeans. The platform provides detailed socio-environmental dataessential to support robust due diligence processes. It also allows for planning future actions, through testing prior to the entry into force of the EUDR.
