Training course "Solutions for exercising due diligence as set out in the EUDR".

On 17, 18 and 19 June, the cycle "Solutions for exercising due diligence as set out in the EUDR" was held with three technical webinars aimed at the sectors regulated by the European Union's Deforestation Free Regulation (EUDR). The cycle was organised by the Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative (IEEB), together with the Subdirectorate General for Forestry Policy and Combating Desertification of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, with the support of AL-INVEST Verde and the collaboration of the European Forest Institute (EFI).

With the title "EUDR Regulation, key issues for regulated companies".The first workshop was attended by Sonia Castañeda, Deputy Director for Green Transition of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge; Emilio Calvo, Director of Component 2 AL-INVEST Verde; and Marta Angoloti, Head of the Timber Area of the General Sub-Directorate for Forestry Policy and Combating Desertification of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO).

José J. Brotons and Paloma Torroba, from the Timber Area of the Subdirectorate General for Forestry Policy and Combating Desertification of the MITECO, also took part in this workshop.

During the second workshop, which focused on "Resources for due diligence: geolocation and traceability".AL-INVEST Verde presented some of the actions it supports in Latin America to facilitate compliance with the EUDR. Participants included César Ricardo Santisteban Pérez, Director General of Policy Monitoring and Evaluation of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation of Peru (MIDAGRI), and Gustavo Idigoras, President of CIARA-CEC (Cámara de la Industria Aceitera Argentina y Centro de Exportadores de Cereales), who presented the VISEC platform.

The cycle also included the participation of several experts from EFI, an organisation recognised for its experience in supporting adaptation to the EUDR in producer countries. Representing EFI were Thomas Sembres, expert in land use governance, who gave a presentation on "Resources for due diligence: geolocation", and Frédéric Baron, expert in deforestation-free value chains, and Josil Murray, expert in land use governance, who co-presented the presentation "Resources for due diligence: traceability".

The cycle concluded with the workshop "Resources for due diligence: no deforestation and legality".Blanca Bonilla, head of the Green Economy and Employment Area of the Biodiversity Foundation, was present. On this day, Carlos Riano, expert in spatial monitoring of EFI, referred to the absence of deforestation as a criterion required for compliance with the EDUR, while Alicie Bisiaux, legal expert, and Frédéric Baron, detailed the criterion of legality.
