On 23 and 24 April, prosecutors from the Brazilian Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) working in the states of the Legal Amazon held a meeting with the aim of analysing progress and adjustments in the activities of the Support Committee for the Terms of Adjustment of Conduct (TAC) of the Legal Meat programme.
The meeting, promoted by Imaflora, through the programme Boi na LinhaThe federal prosecutors of Pará, Ricardo Negrini; Amazonas, Rafael da Silva - leader of the Amazon Legal Working Group -; Rondônia, Gabriel Amorim; and Tocantins, Bernardo Meyer (by videoconference) attended.
The meeting took stock of the actions carried out in 2024 and the planning for 2025. Among these activities, support for the execution of cycles 2 and 3 of the unified audits of the TACs, the creation of Social Chambers in the states, as well as the development of a management system that facilitates the integrated vision of the audit cycles in the Amazon and the coordinated action of the prosecutors in the states for the execution of the TACs stand out. These activities are supported by AL-INVEST Verde.
Since October 2024, Imaflora and the MPF have been using a new audit management system aimed at optimising the organisation, facilitating communication and extracting indicators on the status of the execution of audit cycles. The system allows tracking of deadlines, status and pending issues at each stage of the process. It also has automatic alerts and reminders to avoid delays.
"One of the main challenges for the execution of the audit cycles continues to be access to databases, such as the Animal Transit Guide, GTA, and the Rural Environmental Register, CAR. For this reason, we want to anticipate these requests," said Fernanda Franco, analyst at Boi na Linharesponsible for the implementation of the audit system.
In addition, the creation of a unified Social Chamber for all states was proposed, underlining the importance of guaranteeing the presence of regional actors in this space. The meeting reinforced the joint commitment to promote greater transparency and socio-environmental responsibility in livestock farming in the Legal Amazon.
Also present were representatives of the organisation Friends of the Earth and analysts from the Agricultural Production Chains Programme. Friends of the Earth and Imaflora, by indication of the MPF, are part of the Executive Secretariat supporting the implementation of the Legal Meat Programme.
